    Apple Clafoutis

Clafoutis is a French dessert originating from Limousine region of France. The dessert is traditionally made with Cherries. The Cherries can however be substituted with almost any fruit. In this Apple Clafoutis the Fruit is arranged in a buttered dish and covered with Flan like batter and baked. The dessert was made popular in 19th century.

Why we love this recipe for Apple Clafoutis:

    Super-duper easy to make
Add as much fruit as you want so this is more fruity dessert than almost any other
Make it in one pan and enjoy the ease of serving

    Apple Clafoutis

The ingredients you will need to make Apple Clafoutis:

    Apple Clafoutis

Apples – The star of the show
    Eggs – For binding
All-purpose flour- To make the batter
    Milk – for pouring consistency
Salt – to bring out the flavors
Sugar – For the sweetness, little bit is used to the sweetness really comes from the Fruit
    Vanilla extract - Flavor
Cinnamon and Nutmeg – and more flavor

Step by step instruction to make Clafoutis:

    Best served immediately.

Cut the Apples in small chunks
In a pan that can be used both on Stove and the Oven, heat 1 Tbsp. of Butter on medium flame. If you don’t have such a pan, don’t fret. Just use separate pans.
Once the butter is half melted, add Apple chunks and Sauté for 4 minutes while stirring occasionally so the pieces don’t burn. The Apples will lose some water and reduce in size. Add Cinnamon and Nutmeg. Take off the heat.

In a stand mixer or a in a large bowl, add Eggs, Sugar, Salt and Mix for 2 minutes on medium speed. Add Milk, vanilla and Flour. Mix on high speed for 2 minutes until the mixture is paste like consistency. If you have made pancakes before, the consistency should be about the same.
If using a separate pan for Oven, butter the Pan and place Apple chunks evenly into the pan and Pour the Flour mixture over.

    Recipe Notes:

Don't cook the Apples for too long or they will become mushy after being cooked in the oven.

If you open the oven to check on it, the recipe will still work.

Make sure there is enough butter before pouting the batter in the pan otherwise the Clafoutis will stick to the pan after cooking.

    Recipe Variations:

Keep the batter same and switch out the fruits. If using Cherries or Berries, there is no need to sauté the Fruit.

If you make this recipe and love it, remember to stop back and give it a five star rating – it helps other people find it.
